Dr. Karen Gennaro, M.D., M.B.A. is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who treats children, adolescents and adults.
Her practice focuses on working with people whose primary interest is addressing their problems in living through psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. She will provide medication management to patients if they are working with her in ongoing psychotherapy or psychoanalysis, but she does not offer medication management alone.
Dr. Karen Gennaro was born in Detroit, Michigan into a multigenerational medical family. Before attending medical school, she earned her MBA degree from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, one of the leading business schools in the country.
She had a successful career in business - managing a credit union, consulting in the area of banking operations, and then marketing and selling computer services and software with both CompuServe and the Data Systems Division of Martin Marietta Corporation. She later returned to the family business of medicine, studying at the University of Illinois as well as Case Western Reserve University. Her interest in understanding the range of medical conditions effecting personality and behavior drew her to specialize in Psychiatry and she completed her residency training at the Weill Cornell Medical Center in White Plains, NY.
She also served as research psychopharmacologist for the comparative psychotherapy project led by renowned borderline personality disorder experts, Otto Kernberg and John Clarkin.
